so i have heard you can diy some dosing.. i was wondering about calc and alk doing. anyone know anything about good homemade doses??

you can look up Randy's Recipe. It's super easy.

I do my own. Mark did a write up of a CaCl ice melt that Walmart sells. He had it tested for purity and came back really nice for the tanks. I also us a MgCl ice melt I get from Costco along with epson salt also from Costco. Then for Alk I use Arm and Hammer baking soda. I bake part of it to get soda ash so when I add it there isn't a PH change. All from Randy's recipe. Link posted above.

If you cant find the CaCl and MgCl locally. (it is usually impossible in the summer) Bulkreefsupply.com sells them for pretty cheap.

I went to Home Depot a couple months ago and was able to get Driveway Heat (CaCl). You have to ask someone to get it down for you. They have it on one of the top shelves in storage. You might be able to get CaMg as well.
