Is there anywhere in the SLC valley or surrounding area that I can get a bright green, blue or turqois maxima or crocea clam?

Thanks

You can live for many causes, but you can only die for one. Pick that one very carfully.

How big you think they are? Too big for a 30 gal?

I think they only get to a max of 8"?

To big is a personal preference thing. But they would make a awesome centerpiece to a 30 gallon imho.

I've read the crocea (sp?) clams need really intense light.  How do people have those in their tanks?  Do they use only corals that require really intense light?

I might have to go check them out. As for the lighting I think it's all about placement. If you have stuff that doesnt need as much light you just place it on the sand bed or in the shade of some LR.

I understand the placement thing, but I thought people placed their clams on the sand bed, which pretty much means that unless you are some overhangs, the entire tank must be bathed in intense light in order for the intense light to reach the sand bed.

I have a 165w led light about 4" off the top of my tank and it's about at 60-70% power right now. I havent had a problem with any of my SPS not getting enough light or my LPS getting too much. I think a clam would do well anywhere in my tank.

Different clams have different requirements. Crocea's need high light, and they need to be on the rocks. However, since I have almost 500 PAR in some areas of my sandbed, I have my crocea on a rock just 1/2" above the sand. Clams also do not have a photoinhibition point (they can process light levels too high for many corals) due to the design of their mantles.

On the other hand, many people stick their clams on the sandbed regardless of what the clam needs b/c they look prettier from a look-down position.
