We have a fairly large non-branching hammer coral that is starting to sting some of the others nearby it when it fully extends. I know that it doesn't have a high success rate when fragged but I'm curious if it would be safe to trim some of the skeleton away? How deep into the skeleton does the soft tissue go?

Keith - I have dremmeled a real expensive acan a skeleton like that.  It lived.  Also, this month's reefkeeping online magazine has an article on how to do it.  I think it would be ok?   Good luck!

You can also use the dremmel to cut off that long ORA plug, it works great.
