Topic: Burts Mono-Rail LED Posted: March 07 2011 at 11:03pm |
Here is a sneak peak at my first attempt at building an LED light fixture. Just finished up the mounting brackets tonight and I am off to LA again tomorrow but I hope to get this bad boy wired up this weekend.

It will be a 2 chanel dimmable unit. Total cost should be below $275.00.

Nice... I am going to build one soon. Where did you get the heat sink? And what are the dimensions?

Nice man! Welcome to the LED family!
|
What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing!

Thanks Chad,
It's Done!!!
Here are some pics of the finished fixture.
Specs 24 3 Watt LED's, 16 Blue 8 White Dual Dimming controls Dual Cooling Fans for Active Cooling
It all came together nicely today. Got all the wiring done and dimming circuit completed. I got the dimming kit from Rapid LED. You can see it in the front view pic. It comes complete with a transformer, 2 dimming controls and a mounting box.
I also added 2 massive cooling fans for active cooling. They are very quiet for the amount of air they push. Shouldn't have any problem keeping the heat sinks cool.

Thanks Josh,
I am doing some initial heat testing. They have been on full power for about 10 minutes and the heat sink isn't even warm to the touch yet. The cooling fans are easily dissipating the heat at full power.

I got the heatsinks from Terence over 6 months ago. He bought a bunch of them for a rediculously low price but I don't think he has any left.
It's been almost 45 minutes now on full power and they are still cool to the thouch.

Yep they're going over my frag tank. It's a 5O gallon rubbermaid stock tank. I just have to pick up the splash shield and mount the fixture.

Ready to go I have Chalice, a variety of Zoanthids and Palys, Large 6"+ Monty colonies (Brown with purple rim) Red Monti, Idaho Grape, Bird Nest, GSP, Xenia, Clove Polyps, Nuclear Green Candy Canes, Cabbage Leather, Red Mushrooms, and probably some others I am forgetting about. I am also growing out several different SPS that are not large enough to frag yet. I also have 4 RBTA if you would like an anemone.
