Last night I bought hermit crabs and snails from The Pet Factory for 40 cents and 60 cents each. Let the snails get too cold in the car and only half of them are moving this morning.

Also bought a 2 lb. piece of live rock and decided to break it up into three pieces using a chisel and hammer. The broken ends revealed black rotten egg smelling insides from edge to edge. Placed it in my tank last night and this morning the black is gone. Could this be where some nitrate reduction occurs?

It's been so cloudy the past few days that my clam isn't getting enough light from the window and the PC is not sufficient on it's own. So I placed a "clip on" incandescent light right next to the glass near the clam. It quickly turned to face the new light source.

Yes, I do feel that any porous rock would be a home for denitrifying bacteria.  Pacific live rock fits that description.  Thats also (part of the reason) why good circulation in a reef tank is important.
