Hi, I know I have not posted in a while but I have a couple of questions I would like to ask. First, I am setting up a 90 gallon 48x18x24 aquarium around Christmas time. It will have tunze protein skimmer and tunze calcium reactor. As far as lighting it will have 2- 250 watts metal halides 14000k and 2-96 watt pc. I am wondering If I can keep all types of corals and also all types of clams? Secondly, my fish list is like this: 1 Volitan lion(I am not keeping inverts other than clams), 1 maroon clown, 1 yellow tang, 1 blue tang. Is this fish list overstocking the aquarium or not? Thank you in advance.

The fish list looks fine. . . I have a 90gal with (2) Hippo Tangs (1) Powder Blue (1) Java Tang (2) Clowns (2) Wrasses I also think you're lights will be good for any type of corals.

~85% of filtration is done by LS, LR and Algae. With the information you have given, IMHO, it is impossible to say whether the setup will be okay, especially with a messy pig like a Volitan, Skimmers are accessory filtration IMO. In case you didn't realize, clams are also accessory filtration, almost taking the place of a skimmer. Please provide info about the real fitration of the tank.

Whoa. Are you saying I can junk my skimmer and just buy a clam? Although I understand why you would say that - I'm not on board that a clam = a skimmer in regards to filteration.

Hi and thanks for your response but I have tweaked my original plan. I am going to put 8-54w T5 lighting instead and instead of the volitan put an australian harlequin tuskfish. As far as lighting go will I still be okay for any coral and/or clam? And as far as fish am I still okay? Thank you

Your lighting will be fine for any type of light demanding coral. Water flow is just as important if not more important to most corals.

As far as waterflow I will have 1- 1200 gph powerhead. Also, if instead of the harlequin tusk I put in a lieutenat tang would that be considered overstocking? Thank You very much for your helpful replies!!

I would recommend the tennenti tang over the tusk and lionfish, the tusk and lion are gorgeous fish but will eat your cleanup crew leading to algae issues etc, whereas the tang will help with algae issues.
Which model tunze DOC are you using?
