I bought a used Rio 32HF yesterday that came with my 210 gallon aquarium. When I got it home, I was cleaning it up and noticed the shaft (ceramic) is broken. new impellers cost as much as I paid for the used pump, and spending another $40 on a new impeller would put me at the same price as a new unit.

So my question: I am wondering if there is a place you can buy either ceramic rod or titanium rod that I could use to replace the broken shaft. Or do you have any other suggestions?

A word to the wise: if you buy a used pump of any kind... check the impeller before taking it home. This is actually the second time this has happened to me, you think I would learn.

Thanks

I have read on reefcentral that you can replace ceramic and steel shafts with carbon fiber shafts that are carried by hobbyshops. I can not find the post but I think it was part of modding either maxijet's or Korellia's. I do remember the site was towerhobbies that carried the shafts and some other impellers.

Here is what I found on their site

I think they are used for R/C boats and cars, but they say carbon fiber is stronger and longer lasting than steel or ceramic. and cheap comparied to buying the whole impeller, I would call around town to hobby shops that carry R/C parts maybe find something local that would only be a few dollars to fix it.

FYI I have not tried this so not sure that the carbon fiber would work just an idea from what I remember reading a while ago

stainless steel welding rod works too, just take the impeller down to the welding shop so they can match the size.
Was that in there yesterday? Casper--WY windier than ?

Down to a 20, soon to double or nothing
