or should I say cultures?

I know there are few of us who grow live food, and i am curious why? It is so easy! And, once they are set up, it takes little effort and time...

I have grown so many different things for my tanks and fish! Phytoplankton grows easily. In fact, some FW people get it without even trying....

Copepods live in a vessel with only an occasional drop or two of phyto paste.

Ghost shrimp, mysis shrimp are very prolific, but slow growers.

Brine shrimp will grow to full size in about 2 weeks and then reproduce live larvae, no hatching. For just feeding a reef zooplankton, you can't get an easier source.

 Well. maybe pods are easier...

I guess one reason people don't grow their own is because of room? It is easy to spread out into the whole basement!

Yeah Suzy, I totally agree.  I'd like to know why people don't do more of their own live food.  However, my mysis shrimp didn't make it, I guess I need more instructions.

So many people tell me they want to get a mandarin or dragonette for their tank, but are scared it won't survive.  Learning to grow your own food would certainly insure success.  I've had a dragonette since our tank was 4 months old and it's almost 2 years old now - but I've always fed live food to my tank.

I think the main reason, I don't, is because I am the world's greatest procrastinator... Why do something today if I can put it off until tomorrow?  Embarrassed

I'd say it's just know how and obtaining the starters, etc. I'd certainly like to be taught and start my phyto again. I think al lthe phyto cultures I had are no good now and my fertilyzer's probably no good either.
