Yes it is in most cases. If it is just below the tank I would say it will just work. If it is in the basement below the tank I would say not. This is due to the amount of water held in the pipes and above the overflow. The sump needs to be able to hold this in the event of a power outage. I have a custom sump on my 120 that holds 50 gallons and it seems about right though it will probably hold another 10 gallons above what it needs to. If you have the room bigger is better in my opinion.
i've got a 77 gallon custom sump for my 180 and that is as large as i could possibly fit in my stand. if you aren't going to use the space below for something else i say make it as big as possible.
a custom sump will give you much better gallon per inch but obviously is more pricey. i'm extremely happy with my custom acrylic sump erik from marine aquatics made me, and would highly recommend it. $500 for a custom sump isn't _that_ much in the grand scheme of costs for a 210 gallon tank.
Haha, i might have to have my own mini-reef tour where peopel can just come over and have a beer... i'm not in SLC for the reef tour this year but i'm around the last weekend of this month, or the 21-23rd of october if you want to stop by
