Topic: Cheap MH Bulbs Posted: June 24 2003 at 1:04pm |
Any opinions on these bulbs from petsupplyliquidator:
http://www.petsupplyliquidator.com/htm/replacementbulbs_metalhalide.htm#mh4
at $50, it's tempting (other then the fact that they're backorded).

I'm running Ushio in my tank now. I am happy with them. I would try the other ones at that price if I hadn't just bought these two months ago.

Jon - I am running one of these as well as a Ushio 250 Watt - One on each side to compare light, coral growth and so on. I think I have a couple extra of them around as well.

I ran Ushio 400 watt 10K bulbs on Blueline e-ballasts for a year or so. Great bulbs.

I should mention, given the topic, that the best bulbs for the money seem to still be the Iwasaki 6500K bulbs. Cheap, tons of PAR, work forever. I still keep old ones around as subs when the 10Ks go out. I switched only for aesthetic value. The 6500K 400 watt bulbs produce more light for less money than any other bulb.

I ended up buying the Ushio 10K bulb after trying out Ryan's cheapo 10K. I couldn't find anyone with a spare Iwasaki to try out... so I opted for the Ushio. I like it much better then the Sunburst 12K!

As Jon does, I also use 10k Ushios. Not sure about Jon, but mine are 250 watts. I've only been running for about 2 1/2 months, so far so good. I love the color and the lighting is very intense.

I share "wavemaker's" opinion. I think the Iwasaki 6500k bulbs are the best on the market for that Kelvin rating!!!
I'm running 3 on my 125 and would not change a thing!
