After MUCH discussion a by-law change has been proposed and passed by the presidency.  For those who are interested, the by-laws found here:

The by-law changes are as follows:

Article III.
A. Officers:  The elected officers of the Society shall be President, Vice-President, and at least four (4)council members. Additional council members may be appointed to other offices by the President, or Vice President. Officers are also expected to not serve in a capacity which would be detrimental to the Society including but not limited to: attending, planning, advertising, or production of events and activities of other saltwater, reef, marine (or similar) organizations with similar objectives in a location served by the Wasatch Marine Aquarium Society. These activities would be considered a conflict of interest.

--------------------------------------------------------

Article V.
A. Society Membership
Section 1. General Membership

a. General Members of the Society are people in good standing with
the society, who have paid their annual membership dues.

b. Members of the Society may not hold council positions (positions
of authority or governance) in other saltwater, reef, marine (or
similar) organizations with similar objectives in a location served
by the Wasatch Marine Aquarium Society. These activities would
be considered a conflict of interest.

--------------------------------------------------

Section 8. Duties and powers of the Presidency:
The presidency shall:

g. Accept or reject applicants for membership and direct issuance of
membership certificates as stated in Article V.
