Topic: Carpet Anemone Posted: January 13 2004 at 2:25pm |
Well here is a story for everyone. I know things go wrong with tanks, but trust me no matter how bad your day is, mine is worse. (well okay not if your the guy who had his lights catc fire, or the guy who flooded his house)
Today I was looking at my wife's beautiful tank and everything was great. Then I looked at it about an hour later and the carpet anemone was all curled up. I thought it was odd. But then I discovered why he was curled up, because I could see the dorsal fin and streamer of my wife's MOORISH IDOL sticking out of him. Yes the same anemone that ate my anemonefish has now eaten my wife's MOORISH IDOL. What is worse, is that had that Idol for about 4 months and we was doing great. I couldn't wait for the 6 month mark to show everyone over on RC that you can keep idols in small tanks if you know what you're doing and have a kick ass system.
Well, now I look stupid as I have indeed lost one. I realize my anemone is pretty cool looking with those purple and pink tips, but this is as close as I've been to flushing (or at least giving away) an anemone. So for anyone out there who is thinking of buying an anemone, don't buy the pretty tan carpets with the purple tips.

Adam, if you get to the point of getting rid of him, let me know. I might be interested in him.

I don't want to say if he is Atlantic or not, but I'm guessing (because of the local store I bought him at) that he is Pacific. I don't think he is a hosting anemone, I'm just surprised that fish are stupid enough, careless enough, or just unlucky enough to run into him.
Stupid fish, stupid anemone, stupid Adam.

You mean a fish that can figure out how to jam a rock in an impeller to disable a filter is not smart enough to stay clear of your anemone??
Oh - you mean to tell me fish don't speak to one another and plan elaborate escape attempts?
You gotta love the anthropomorphization abilities of Disney.
My condolences on your moorish idol ...

If the fish are planning to escape, what is the anemone planning? Are you in cahoots with the anemone adaM?!

Adam,
I was really looking forward to seeing a picture of that moorish idol. My heartfelt condolences to you and your wife. As a newbie, I'd love to see a picture of that anemone if you get a chance. I'll bet he's really healthy, and a little sleepy from his sneaky snack.
