Should I leave my in wall tank this size opening and upgrade to a 75
gallon, or should I make the hole bigger and get a 90 gallon? If I got
the 90 I could later upgrade to the 120 without any problems.
This will be my first saltwater tank. I have had this 55 freshwater for
about 5 years now but I need to go bigger and I have always wanted
salt, the price tag has been keeping me away from it though.

I would resize the hole and put a 120 in. If you go with a 90 you will wish you had gone with the 120 to begin with. Im going through the same kind of thought prosses right now.

Bite the bullet and go for a 120. I'm sure glad that I did. The added depth, front to back, is a big help when placing corals. You always seem to run out of room on the sand.

Don't go 90 go 120 instead. No go 150 that's even better. Wait what about a 180 or a 210. What the heck try a 300.
We all think bigger is better, but there comes a point where you have to pick your size a stick with it. My advice would be as the rest however. If you think you will be going to a 120 in the near future, just save a bit more $$$ and do it to start. In the end your wallet, and your livestock will be the better for it. I say this because you won't be buying 2 tanks over time and moving the livestock from one tank to a bucket to a new tank.

I just talked the wife into going with the 120. 
If she would have let me cut the hole bigger when i did it the first
time it would have already had a 125 in there, then I could have went
to a 210.  I guess that i will be cutting
the hole and the cabinet down 4 more inches. It will be easier than
resheetrocking the whole wall and putting a new header in. I will be
putting the 55 in the cabinet for a sump so I will need to cut another
hole to get it in anyways.
Now i just need to wait for the first of the year to get the money to do it. I am getting excited.

a 150 is the same size, but deeper(front to back...30" vs the 120's 24").... IMO, if you're gonna try to take complete advantage of your situation then go with the 150.

I have a 120 and it's all I need for now. You'll love the 120. I've thought about bigger tanks, but I have to stop myself and remember that I'm pushing the limits of my wife's patience with the setup I've got... The 120 dimensions are very good, IMHO.

When I bought my 150 the difference in price from the 125 was like $30,
It was a no brainer. But I thought the 150 was taller, not deeper.

What are the dimensions on the 150's? The one from all-glass is 72 wide
and I only have room to go 48 without completly tearing my wall out and
starting over. The cabinet that I have already built is only 24" deep
so the 120 will be all I can fit without completly rebuilding it too. I
can just cut it down 4" to get the 24" tall tank to fit in there
without too much work.

The best I can tell is 150s come in 3 sizes. The one that would work the best here is 48" wide 24" deep and 31" tall. The other sizes are 60 X 24 X 25 and 48 X 30 X 25. That said I really like my 120 and 150s are about 50% more money.
