I would have said the same thing as PMPT. I don't have any preferences. I just go Pet Factory and I buy a bunch of whatever they carry. Sorry I can't be of more help.

turbos = too big knock stuff over
Ceriths = best ones in my tank, love substrate and reproduce, but look
dumb
Astrea =look dumb like rock and glass but not sand
Margaritas =look cool, great glass and rock cleaners, dont like my sand
Nasarius =cool looking and fast, my butterfly ate all mine, they are
carnivores
crabs= Red and blue are the same, but scarlet ones like to suck substrate
more IMO.
if i didn’t have any snail eating fish I would get some margarita, lots of
ceriths, a few nasarius snails, some bumble bees for night time watching
(nocturnal) and a few astreas.
a few scarlet crabs, and a mix of red/blue with some extra shells for them
to grow into.

I love my turbo snails, they keep my glass spotless. For smaller tanks id use astrea.

yeah turbos look cool and are good cleaners, I just had to ditch them when I
started trying to balance all my frags next to eachother without them
touching.
but I hope that helps somewhat. I just got a bunch of ceriths and want more.
They keep my substrate White.

One more possibility is 1 or 2 Emerald Crabs depending on tank size. 2 for maybe 55 or larger. At one point I had 5 in my 180. They will help take care of Hair Algae and are one of the few critters that do a good job on Bubble Algae.
I like Blue Legged hermits because they are cheap. They are usually sold small so buy 1 per gallon. IMO
I also like Astrea Snails because they are cheap. Margarita's are probably my favorite though. Second favorite is probably Mexican Turbo's cause they do a great job, but they do get big and become bulldozers so I'd say they are out in smaller tanks.
Just my 2 cents. Otherwise everything Centipededesign said is right on the money as far as I'm concerned.
