My eheim 200w heater just broke as i was doing water change. I have two 200w heaters in my sump, one in drain skimmer compartment, and one in fuge compartment. I took the water down in my return compartment so that half of my heater was still submerged. Started to put the new water back in and then it cracked. There is a fine layer of dust or some sort of chemical/powder that came out of the heater. I turned both heaters off for now, and it is all contained in the sump. What do I do now?? I have my sandbed, rock and cheato in my sump. Do i take it all out and rinse it?

More than likely it is corrosion from the heater pull the heater change most of the water in the sump and add fresh carbon

Yeah, it should be. If you need another heater to get you by I have a spare Eheim 150 and a 300 if you want to borrow one.

Scott, I did this same thing too with one in my sump. I solved that problem by putting the setting on my Reef Angel controller to heater off when I do a water change.

Lol, my biggest concern was if there was something inside of the heater that would kill my fish and corals. Ill do another w/c in a day or two

Get a titanium heater then you'll never have to worry about the glass breaking again
