Hi everyone my name is Edgar i am new to SW i have a custom 20 gal tank that i been having fun with for the last 4-5 months, but just like everyone in this hobby, i got the need to go bigger so i decided to build a new system! i been thinking of building a new 60 gal thank with a 55 gal sump/refugium and i really need all the help that i can get since i want to build most of the system myself of course with you guys help! and of course the first thing that iam going to start with is the main tank! i been reading some of the DIY treads on how to build a thank but i still have some questions! My first question is, If i want to build a thank that measures  44'' long x 13'' deep x 25'' tall, what measurements should i get the glass panels if iam planing on the glass thickness to be 3/8s and do euro braces on top and bottom?

Hello Edgar. Sorry there was not much response to you first request in the other thread.

Lets look at what you said. You told us the tank dimensions, indicating that you had built one before, and then asked what the dimensions should be. I think that's why you didn't get much response.

If you are really interested in building a tank, why not go back and edit the title to say "How do I build a glass Euro style tank?" and edit the text in the introductory post asking more specific questions.

Frankly, it is much simpler to just buy a tank, set it in the wall and build the wall/molding around it.
(Personally I don't like tanks in the wall because there is so much cool stuff to see all around the entire tank. But that's just me. I like all the microlife, bugs and worms, small snails and tiny coral polyps.Smile)

I'll offer another frank opinion. The set up of the reef and understanding the biology of getting it to be a healthy environment so the plant and animal life not only survive, but thrive, is much more involved and 100 times more fascinating than the actual water holding container. Big smile

Edgar, do you have room to go a little deeper in the depth of the tank? you are really going to be limited with 13" If you are planning on building a custom tank I would look at going 24" or more personally. I would recommend going and looking at alot of different tanks and pay close attention to the depth.

someone over look this because this is what pops in my head without grabbing a notepad

bottom panel 44x13
sides 24 1/4x 12 1/4
front/back 44x24 1/4
if you go with a 2 inch brace around the whole top you will need 2 of the following
44x2
9x2

I say 13" doesn't provide much room for any fish to really swim, with the live rock in their. I would personally say 30" would be a good spot, more volume and great depth for a custom tank.
