If i had to guess I don't think that's marine velvet but I've not seen it in person. I have tangs and have seemed to have had that same thing before, and it healed within a day.

Looks like a slightly stressed powder brown to me.Cant see anything abnormal. Marine velvet is fairly rare. How long have you had the fish? How long has it been with this look? Have you googled it and compared it to the pictures?

Interesting. Its good you see something I cant from the picture. Because it looks like the spots on most powder browns in the stores. Stress marks.

All fish lighten up when stressed. IF the fish has had damage in the past then it will show up when the fish gets its stress colors.

If it's what you say it is, the fish won't make it very long, unfortunately. I've had that stuff wipe out my entire tank, including tank-raised clowns. The key is to watch the fish gills- if they're moving fast (probably more than once per second) then it's not good.
If it's what Dion says, you will see improvement over a few days.

It has been acting a little funny compared to when i first got it. At first it just peacfully swam through the tank grazing on rock and swimming through rock, Now it seems more spasy like it will come out and swim back to is hiding spot then come out coutiously swim a little and go back, then it comes out and swims fast to the other side of the tank and goes behind the rocks. he is still eating pretty good but i have not seen him eat any nori I have put in there. could this be some kind of bacterial infection? I so how would i treat? thanks for everyone's help

I don't think so it is more of a rash, but once again i have no idea what it is so i guess it possible. After researching I am thinking that this is probably a bacterial or fungul disease.

Keep a close eye on him. I picked up a fish a couple of years ago and did not quarnitine him. He had marine velvet. It wiped out everything in my tank minus one of my damsels and my watchman. Started out looking just like he was getting lighter in color. Then when the blue lights only were on I could see what looked like dusting on him. All the fish continued to eat normally but after noticing the lightening they would die within a couple of days. The clowns held on the longest and literally skin was falling off of them. It was horrible to watch. The whole thing took out about 6 fish in a couple of weeks. And what was weird besides the clowns it would kill one fish before infecting anything else. Be careful.
