Topic: Evolution of my tank(s) (another tank 2/1/14) Posted: November 12 2011 at 3:42pm |
Thought I'd post some pics of my journey out of boredom....camera sucks though...hopefully Santa will pull through this year. First tank- 55 gallon, typical petco tank with the fake deco, stocked with the typical freshwater community fish 6 months into the hobby, started my first planted tank, 10 gallon, which I used to raise a couple of young, but infamous ELECTRIC blue jack dempseys... Re-did 55 gallon fw tank (added sand, rock for more natural look) and wanted to take on peacock cichlids... One of my favs. Got Bored and started my first salt water tank....didn't know what I was doing though... 55 gallon HOB SW tank Learned quite a bit on forums: Upgraded to 90 gallon and decided I would make some improvements with a sump and better equipment. Tank turned 1 years old, had some great growth, kept learning. I have now learned too much (hence another change coming) and also have limited time while working on my PhD, so I have decided to downgrade to a smaller tank and make some other changes that will simplify my life and make the tank less work.....pics to come!

Looks nice. I like growing things from
1 inch pieces to big colonies. Just building a bigger tank now to make room!!

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler -A.E. 57 Gallon RImless build in progress check the thread before if becomes boring and just full of nice pictures of colorful coral!

About the tank and Under the Hood: Tank: 4 foot shallow(33 gallons) -SPS Dominant, Shallow Sand Bed, All Vida Rock Sump: Oceanic (~25 gallons) Light: ATI Sunpower 6X39 watt Flow: Mag 3 Return, 1 Mp40 Dosing: 2 Part Bulk Reef Supply (pumps & cal/alk), 10 gallon Auto top off reservoir Skimmer: ASM Gx1 Fuge Light: 5600k PAR30 screw in LED from Lowes (grows chaeto great!) -Loaded with Chaeto and some established Utah Rock Controller: Reefkeeper lite Reactor: Two Little Fishies phosban reactor, Carbon use only at this time. Last but not least....custom installed paper towel roller ....paper towels are a reefers best friend. And thanks to the pull out mini doors, my 3 year old hasn't found my controller...yet! The tank has been running about a month and I've really enjoyed it. It is quite efficient and requires little maintenance on my part (compared to my old tank). This should allow me to worry less since my time is short (Full-Time Job & PhD student). I'll try to take some more pictures soon and update periodically with some growth shots!

I like the paper towels rack. Blue shop towels and Sprayaway ammonia-free glass cleaner are a fantastic glass cleaning solution.
