I have tried convincing stores that Glo T5's suck and to carry the real thing.
The problem is two fold. I am not trying to be mean or rude but this is the truth. If you are offended then I am sorry.
1) Majority of the owners are "set" in their ways. They won't listen to fact or reason. Their way works, so why change? We can see how far that mentality gets people. To the owners defense I have reason #2.
2) The majority of Utah reefers won't spend the money for the good stuff. They want the $100 fixture to perform like the $500 one. They want to give you $10 for a $50 coral. They are frugal and I understand that. Being newlywed is costly enough let alone my tank. But at what point do we become cheap and insulting?
Stores won't carry the good stuff because it costs more. So people go online and find it cheaper. Stores see no reason to carry it because they can't compete with online prices. Therefore they carry whatever is cheapest for them and call it good.
The problem lies with the hobbyists and the stores and the two sides will never see eye to eye.
