So I am planning on getting my new tank up and running tomorrowClap.  I assume that once my various parameters are within appropriate levels it is safe to begin to add some life to the tank.  I have a 55g tank with a 55g sump/refugium and a 4 x 54 watt T5 light fixture.  Following are a list of the fish I am interested in.  I do plan to get some invertabrates amd coral as well.  Let me know thoughts on these fish, how well they would do together, order I should plan on getting them into my tank, if my tank is too small for any of these...any help is appreciated as this is my first time involved with SW fish.

Blue spot jawfish
Flame or Coral Angel
Mated true perc hosting clownsfish (with anemone)
Lawnmower Blenny
Mystery or Fairy wrasse
Mandarin Goby (I've read a bit about these and understand that this may be wishful thinking)

I would like to get a clam and some cool shrimp as well as various corals.

Thanks

4 bulb T5HO light
tank established 8/6/10

Seems like a pretty good list. i know some people have had flame angels or coral beautys that nip at LPS. I have a flame angel now that is still good (knock on wood). I really like the colors on blue spot jawfish, mystery wrasse, and mandarin gobies.

If a fair amount of live stuff is used, parameters then become overrated. Alk and Ca are typically fine for the first few months of a tanks existence. Some salts do not have enough Alkalinity so checking that is a good idea. The worry about N compounds is not a big deal if a good amount of macroalgae is used from the start.

Here are my suggestions in order:

Don't forget the snails, added within days and along the way, depending on how much LR is added from the LFS or other tanks. Be sure to move LR submerged if possible and turn, twist and shake the air bubbles out of ALL rock

Mated true perc hosting clownsfish (with anemone) if you set it up with all the live components as outlined in the "affordable reef" thread these can be added within a week, but buy 3 because one is bound to die as two pair up
Flame or Coral Beauty Angel wait for two weeks for soft algae and macroalgae to fill in
Lawnmower Blenny wait for 2-4 weeks so there is plenty of soft algae growth to eat
Blue spot jawfish wait for 3 months, because these are not cheap and will do better in a more established tank
Mandarin Goby wait for 4 -6 months so a full bug population can grow
Mystery or Fairy wrasse wait until after the Mandarin Goby is doing well, otherwise it will eat the bugs the Mandarin needed to survive.

I would like to get a clam 2 months and some cool shrimp 2-3 weeks as well as various corals. soft coral within the first week, LPS after a few weeks and SPS at 6 weeks.

You won't have enough bacteria die off if you take it out of the water. I just cycled 75 pounds of rock in my garage and carried it in on a tray to put it in my tank.(probably 10 minutes out of the water).
Had no cycle at all!!
SPS at 6 weeks!! that's crazy talk! I would wait at least 3 months if not longer!
I would never put fish in after only 1 week unless you like sushi! I wouldn't put a mushroom in after 1 week
I would take things people post on here with a grain of salt.

I would say the best way is to play it by ear. Dont add ANYTHING until your cycle has finished. I agree w/ Mark about the mandarin, wait until you have a good population of bugs, and even then it's sketchy. As for the mystery wrasse it will eat bugs, but will also eat prepared foods. Fairy wrasses once used to a feeding schedule won't even try looking for bugs. You can also keep fairy wrasses and a mystery wrasse together. What lighting are you going to run? If you're planning on running PC's you'll only be able to keep a deresa clam. SPS you will really need to get you tank mature, and stable for them to survive. Many of them will RTN with fluctuations in water parameters. As for the clowns, you can buy just 2 and they will pair up. It works for me every time, and that way you avoid killing fish unnecessarily. Coral Beauty or Flam angel would be fine to add in the first phases of stocking. They take to prepared food easily so algae in this particular circumstance is over rated. I will definitely say don't by a Wrasse, or Jawfish until you have some sort of mesh cover for the tank. Otherwise you should expect fish jerky.
