On our way home we spent a few days on Oahu. As we drove along Waikiki Beach I saw a building that said Waikiki Aquarium!Shocked Immediately I said to my wife, "We have to stop." Thing is, our main reason for visiting Oahu was so she could go see the Polynesian Cultural Center (which is awesomeSmile) We had spent the previous day at the PCC so now we were just driving around seeing whatever and here we drove right by this famous place! For me, the tanks inside the building were nothing to write home about, I'm sure there were as good and better on the WMAS Reef Tour, but outside in the full sun, fully exposed to the wind and rain was the crown jewel...

Can you guess how I'm going to set up my next aquarium?

Oh and I almost forgot. We walked out on one of the breakwaters. I was looking down and saw what I first thought was algae growing on the top of many of the rocks. I was wrong. Right there in front of my eyes were huge rocks covered with Green Star Polyps. If it had been legal, I would have reached down and bagged some.

Mark,

The third book on reef aquariums by Sprung and Delbeek go over the Carlson Surge Device as well as many others, just FYI. You're welcome to borrow my copy. I think Adam Blundell has done a surge tank that works great.

Mark I'm glad you got to see the waikiki aquarium, definately one of my favorites.  I've probably gone there 4 times over the last 6 years.  And you are right, the outdoor exhibits are much more interesting than the ones inside.  Although they have some super nice angels inside as well.
