Topic: salt mix Posted: July 01 2004 at 1:50pm |
Just out of curiousity... what type of salt mix is everyone using. (not that I'm running low and may be looking to get some more)
Ok and I'll go first
I'm using Instant Ocean right now, but I'm thinking about switching to Oceanic.

IMO, picking a salt mix is alot like picking live rock... who really cares. Instant Ocean, Kent, Coralife, Red Sea, Oceanic are all good salts imo. Personally I use Instant Ocean.

I've always used Coralife Salt because they give me a free Nemo shirt , but my last purchase for a water change was Oceanic.

I agree with Jon. After the last meeting, I really dont think there is going to be much difference in salts. Unless of course you use reef crystals and you are trying to raise sea urchins, then you might have a problem.
I personally use Instant Ocean

I alternate between Coralife & Instant Ocean when I do water changes. I like to mix it up.

If you buy the large bucket of IO you also get a t-shirt --- and a cool bucket. I use IO --- its the best. The rest of the salt mixes create a toxic slurry of death for your aquarium. Just kidding. I have used IO and Tropic Marin with great success.

I like Oceanic, Also if you have an extra 5 gallon bucket, you can buy red sea salt from MSM. That I think is the cheapest, but still good stuff.
