Topic: Field Trip Anyone? Posted: April 02 2007 at 11:05pm |
Okay.... I'd like to do an expedition to go out and get some Utah Rock, bring it back, and start growing it. Trouble is, I don't know where to look or what it looks like. Yes, I've seen the maps but I would rather have a (some) semi-experienced sidekick(s). So, do you know where to find it? How to identify it? Let's go! I can drive!

I would love to go also. I went out the other day looking and got a few small pieces and plenty of sand. I also need some rock for a 210 gallon tank and some other tanks I am building in, down in my basement. I also would like to know where you find the larger pieces. I probably won't be able to go after this week for a couple of months. I am having surgery on my shoulder and the recovery time is a couple of months. I guess I could bring the sons-in-law to do my digging. The pieces I found were buried in the sand and were extremely light weight and porous. I have had them in a tank for a couple of days and they already look like they are starting to get coralline on them. It might just be my wishful thinking.

80% utah rock. 1 1/2 years running (with the contents of a 3 year old 60g) The Utah rock was completely covered in coralline within 6 months.

there are some very large pieces up on the hill side up there. where you get to the broken arrow intersection turn right to where there is an area you can see has become a shooting range. there are two roads that lead up the hill on the east side of that heading north. stick to the road on the left. It is really more of an ATV trail not for cars, and maybe trucks. just a few hundred yard up there is a rocky area on the left that has tons of very large sizes of LBTR. good stuff, may be a ways to walk with them though.. I used an ATV.
