Looks like my purple tang has the beginnings of HLLE, little white indentations around the head. Right now he's on nori seaweed + frozen brine/krill/misc mix. I feed him 1.5x1.5 in of nori everyday, and he still eats alot of the brine mix as well. I think he may be getting too much meat. He does pick at algae all around the tank, but it's only a 30 gal(yeah I know it's small for a tang) Any suggestions? More plants? A new home? Thanks in advance - Tim

tfowers, try the Julian Sprung seaweed mix. I have heard the red and the purple seaweeds are the best. Nori is good, but might be lacking. Also soak some of the seaweed in a real rich vitamin supplement.

My suggestions:

1.  Get him into a bigger tank.

2.  Soak all his food in Selco (or like product).

3.  Keep immaculate water quality.

I just went through a battle with HLLE and my PT.  Here is what I came up with...

PT's are almost vegetarians.  Mine gets Formula 2 about every day, Formula 1 and/or Prime Reef a couple times a week.  He also has macro algae from the fuge 24/7 and gets green seaweed salad a few times a week.

On top of a good diet vitamins such as Selcon is very good and Zoecon is good and also claims to help HLLE.

There are also claims that a ground probe will help if stray voltages are present.

Good luck,

I feed my PT romaine lettuce on one of those clips, and has never had any problems with HLLE.

Romaine lettuce is not very nutritious.  Green seaweed salad is not expensive and is very nutritious.  HLLE does not happen overnight.  Once your tang has it, it is very difficult to cure...

Its a liquid. Vitamin additive. Good stuff. Check The Aquarium, TPF and of course MSM!
