I'm starting over on my 120g. Want to do a FOWLR aggressive tank. Here are the fish I would love to have. let me know if they are all compatible, I will be getting them all as small fish. If they are all compatible, let me know in which order I should introduce them. here is what I want. Huma Trigger, Clown Trigger, Lunare Wrasse, Porcupine Puffer, Auriga butterfly or pearlscale butterfly. |

First, I'd be happy with any our all of those fish in a reef tank. Second, I'd go with the butterfly first. Adam ------------- Come to a meeting, they�re fun! |

| If it were me, I would add the butterfly's first at the same time, then the wrasse, then the puffer, then the triggers at the end at the same time and I would get them as small as possible. |

If the reason for thinking of a coral-less tank is because of the
trouble of keeping water parameters right, there are tons of soft coral
that don't eat up the Alk and Ca like stony coral. All but two of those fish would be perfectly fine with a coral reef tank. The two exceptions, the puffer and butterflyfish could be fed properly and trained not to eat the coral. Fish train as easily as dogs when they learn that you are the boss. There might be a few coral that would be too irresistible, but still plenty of coral to consider. Coral not only look good but they filter the water. In my opinion, the term FOWLR is an antiquated term from years ago when I got into the hobby, before we knew much about the needs of coral and fish. "Reef Safe" really just boils down to feeding the good foods we have available today and training the fish from the very start. I just always heard that these fish are not reef safe, and will eat zoo's, softies, lps etc.. I already have the Lunare Wrasse, and the Trigger clown.(trigger clown is in my 35g. and will be added last.) I just picked up the Pearlscale Butterfly, about an hour before I read that the butterfly, and the puffer, are the only ones that may not be reef safe. maybe, i'll hold off on the puffer, and hope the Pearlscale does ok with some corals. The porcupine puffer will likely be fine in a reef. Keep your fish well fed. It may eat an invert or two. Corals, not as likely. I am going to have one in mine soon. The "reef safe" and "not reef safe" terms really bug me. What do they really mean? And why are so many scared of a fish once it's been labeled? ------------- 150 gal reef with 50 gal sump. everyone is getting along great so far! Also ready to add. Baby Huma Huma, I've seen a few big ones at LFS but haven't come across a small one. please let me know if anyone has spotted any small guys thanks! |
I planned on moving my clown fish to the smaller tank in fear he would get bullied. but he is full grown. should I just leave him in? and watch chim close, or should I not take any chances?Posted By: love2skiutah

^^ thanks! AD has 3 big guys in right now. Bird world has none, Reefon has big one. those are really the only LFS I frequent.. I live in Layton, any others I could check out or call? |
