I fed The Harlequin Shrimp in my shop tank this last week. I keep one in both of my tanks but they typically are quick to rush their prize to the rock work. This time he jumped on it and went to town. You can see him getting underneath it to paralyze it. At one point it escaped and the shrimp hung on as it went up the side of the tank. Sorry for the dirty glass in some of the pictures. I didn't think it would be a good idea to try and clean it right then :) besides ...look at its staby arms. OUCH!!!!

Ewww. I was not aware that they stab and paralyze the star. How long does the paralysis last?

I thought (could be wrong) that the paralysis was starfish-induced. The starfish freeze up as a defense mechanism and play dead...to the advantage of the shrimp. Brittle starfish do not do this, so Harlequins often avoid them.
