I have a small (not tiny) hippo tang. I have had him for ten days. He has been doing great. Today I noticed that one of his side fins is barely flipping. The other is compensating to keep him upright but at times he seems like he is struggling. He is still eating just fine. Both fins look thrashed on the ends. Nothing else in the tank is having problems.

Probably fighting amongst tank mates. Should get better on its own. Tank mates likely have worked out their differences by now hopefully.

Okay I am certain it is the yellow tang. They are like my kids: Good in front of me, I leave....FIGHT!
Any advice for helping the underdog?

I would pull the yellow tang, put him in the sump in time out for a week or so, then put him back in so he is the NEW kid again. That sometimes calms them down.

I added a lot of fish to make tank and went I see my yellow tang or anything or fish don't liking their new tankmate I just put a mirror in one side if the tank. (Usually the opposite if where the new fish hangs out). I leave it there for a few days and if still don't work after a few days I leave it longer until they calm down.
