If a featherduster worm loses his fan will he grow it back?

It's my understanding that they can lose the duster and play dead for a variety of reasons. While this definately isn't a good sign, it doesn't mean the duster is dead yet. Give the worm a few weeks and it will probably regrow another much smaller head.

From what I've read this problem is usually associated with starvation. FDW, especially the large hawaiian variety require large amounts of phyto to survive.

I might know a place where you can get some yummy phyto! If
you are trying to keep filter feeders, I think you might want to try
and grow it. It's the easiest thing I do for my tank.

Mine lost all its "feathers" and I thought it was dead. I left it in there for a month or so, decided I better pull the tube out and when I did, there was still a living worm in it. So I figured what the heck. I through him back in there and he regrew his "feathers" after another week or two. Give em time. They are typically pretty hardy.

Well thanks my featherduster lost his feathers when I decided to move him.
