Well I am setting up a 75 gallon and i don't really want to blow $300 on live rock so i was wondering if there was still some decent pieces out there. Also i have heard about the location but i am still not 100% sure i could find it at this point so any decent directions would be much appreciated. I am thinking of going 50/50 with half LBTR and half a mix of some other kinds of rock. Also if anyone has a decent skimmer that would work for a 75 let me know what you want for it. Thanks |

As far as collecting your own rock, Mark's location is a little better than my location for picking LBTR (mine had alot of the good stuff picked clean by now). Either place is pretty far out west, like an hour west of SLC. So, a bit of driving.
A better idea is to do all 3 of these things:
1) Post on the "Buy / Sell" Forum here a topic "Looking for Live Rock". Put in your post how much live rock your are looking for. You can probably find someone who will sell you for maybe $2 or $3 per pound...
2) Post on the "Buy / Sell Forum" here a topic "Looking for LBTR Utah Rock". Put in your post how many pounds of LBTR you are looking for, and that it can be "Dry rock" (not live). You can probably get it for $1 a pound or so...
3) PM Mark Peterson. I bet he still has some decent, already picked and cleaned, dry LBTR that he will sell for cheap.

builderofdreams has some live rock on the buy/sell forum as well for way less than $300..... so do a few others.
------------- 180 Gallon, 75 gallon, 30 gallon, 5 gallon. On a side note: I have just now decided that "Gallon" is a funny looking word. |

thanks everyone for all the suggestion i will probably try all of them and i would love some steve anybody have any directions just in case if you have your secret spot i totally understand I am so pumped to start the new tank!!! |

do you guys know anything about the sand out there is it worth it i have read about many people using it. is it in the same place as the rock? |

The sand is out on Stansbury Island (near Grantsville)
It is about 30 minutes east of the place I collected the rock from.

I also have a ton of rock and sand from when we went out there several years ago. I can't remember if we washed it or not but I think we did, but like I said that was several years ago and another power wash would be a good idea. Anyway, if you want it you can either have it for free or send a couple bucks my way to keep my obsession going...  I'm in West Jordan btw, not sure where you are from... I also have a ton of LIVE rock for sale at a cheap price. If you take the rest I'll give you an even better deal, I just want it gone.

Can't beat a deal like that on LR!
I miss going out there to collect Utah sand and rock. It was a fun excursion. I gave away literally tons from my backyard.
