Hi Everyone, I am currently a little over a month into my SE Asia trip. Right now I'm at Lake Toba in north Sumarta, Indonesia. Its an amazing place but just a week ago I was in Malaysian Borneo. Specifically a town named Kota Kinnabalu. This is not far from Sipadan which is a world famous dive spot. While there, i had the good fortune to take a day trip out to the islands. One tiny Island in particular name Mamotik was just incredible in terms of the diversity of corals I saw. I had my Gopro and took tons of pictures and hours of video. I was pretty pleased with the results but the colors are a bit washed out. I did have a flat port on the go pro so images were in focus. I will post these pics when I have a decent enough connection. I tried a few times to upload images but it timed out. The varity and health of the corals i saw was like nothing else ive seen before. I remember the egyptian red sea was pretty good but a lot of the coral was stressed and dying but it was fortunately not the case at this island for the most part. Table acros 20+feet across as far as you could see. And all type of hard corals that took your breath away. There were very few people on the island and thery only were in the beach area. I swam to the side of the island and I was the only person in the water there. It was truly an unforgetable coral garden. As i said I will post pics real soon. Just wanted to check in with my coral geek friends.

Awesome photos of the reef. An appropriate choice of lenses, a "fish eye" lens!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Yeah, its been an amazinn trip so far. I spent some time in Bali and then went ot Gili Travangan which is an Island off Lombok. The visibility was just jaw dropping on this island. However, this is where a lot of the coral was desimated from dynamite fishing. It is making a comeback in a lot of places though. Some of the reefs has great SPS that i totally wanted to get frags of ;) On this Island, I saw lots of Montiporas and acros that we have in out tanks. Lot of the aquacultutre stuff comes from close by here. That reminds me to ask if anyone knows of any aquaculture facilities that i can visit while in Lombok and Bali? I know there are a few around here but the locals dont know about them and they are not advertised to touurists. Might be a pipe dream but it would be cool to hand pick some colonies and have them shipped back.
My plan is to take a bus/ferry all the way to Flores and Komodo Islands. I heard the diving and snorkeling is outstanding in Komodo. Here are a few more pics from Borneo. Ill post some from the Lombok area when I have a change to parse through all those pics.
Thanks

Thanks sooo much Mark. Yeah, Im super lucky to be able to take the time off. I am heading out to Flores and Komodo in a day or so and have decided to take the 3 day boat ride that stops at the various islands and snorkeling spots along the way. Will try and take some pics along the way and keep you guys posted. Her are a few more in the mean time. These were at Gili Travangan Island off Lombok.
Thanks

Oh my.
Basket Stars, Klyxum(formerly colt coral) and thick forests of SPS of all kinds.
You are very photogenic. Have some fun for me. I'm thinking of you. Is your wife with you?
Makes me want to go jump in the ocean right now, but it's not the same. Hawaii is drab compared to where you are.
