I received a new wrasse this morning and I thought it might be helpful to show everyone how I do this process since I've had a lot of practice.Big smile
I will show my process, step by step to show you how I transfer a new fish without ever touching it, even without a net.

This certain fairy wrasse is a fairly rare wrasse.  A  C. Katherinae.
So I try to handle it with extreme care to never harm the fish.

First I remove the bag and place it in my refugium so that the temps become one.

Once the temp is matched, I get my acclimation box and place it in one of my many s/w buckets.

Then I cut open the bag and gently pour the existing water and fish directly into the ac box.

After this is finished , I add a drip line so that I can merge my water to the existing water helping the new fish get acclimated to my water. This usually takes around 30 minutes.

After that, I gently lift the box from the bucket and directly into my tank.  Never touching the fish with hands or net.  The less stress on the fish , the better they will be in the long run.

.
A happy fish in his new home.  I hope this helps those that are new here.

It resembles  the girdled (Balteatus) wrasse, but from what Kevin Kohen mentioned, he has only ever had a couple come his way.

Is there a particular reason that you do a temp acclimation and then a drip acclimation?  It seems like the drip acclimation would take care of the temperature acclimation as well wouldn't it?

Thanks for this post Brad. How long do you typically keep the fish in the acclimation box?

You are very welcome. I usually keep them in the box for 2-4 days depending on the other fish.  It's nice to be able to feed the new fish and know he is eating also.  You have to be tuff and fast to get a good meal in my tank.

Thanks for documenting that process, Brad. Can you remind me one more time where you bought the acclimation box? Fish looks amazing!

Thanks Brandon,  the box was made for me by a guy on RC.  He doesn't build them anymore but Tyler does from elite acrylics.   Right here in ogden.
