Ok well as many of you know, Phinfan was helping a friend sell a 180 up in Ogden.

It was a steal and came with everything needed to get going, though a couple of things seem to be out dated (lights, possibly pumps as well).

I trucked the tank home tonight and cleaned it up.  It had a good layer of mud and sand mixed with gravel on the bottom.

We had to cut a few of the lines in order to disconnect them and move the tank, so tomorrow I will:

Replace Lines
Clean Sump
Throw away Bio Balls (Shopping bag full if someone wants em)
Plug everything in
See what is broken and what is working.

I am hoping all goes well!

This will be a Reef Tank.  I just need to get it cycled so I can move my fish in soon.

Another BIG thanks to Phinfan, Rara, and Triggerhappy for helping me move the tank here today!

Please feel free to comment on what I am doing right/ wrong.  Even though it is my second tank, it has only been a couple of months since I started.

-Brent

EDIT:

I have decided to keep a running stock list for the tank in this post.  I will make edits as things either pass or are introduced to the tank.

1- Cleaner Shrimp
2- Peppermint Shrimp
30(or so)- Hermits
1- Emerald Crab
10- Nassarius Snails
6- Turbo Snails
1-Pistol Shrimp
1-Yellow Watchmen Goby
2- Red Fairy Anthias
2- Ocellaris Clowns
1-Pajama Cardinal
1- Niger Trigger
1- Yellow Tang

Thanks for all the kind words!

Tank is level based off my iphone leveler.  Maybe I need to get a real level on it too?
If it isn't quite level, what do you suggest to level it out?

Connie,
Thanks for the gravel offer.  I think I am going to go Pink FIJI or possibly Bare bottom though.
I do appreciate the offer!

I cleaned out the wet/dry filter and threw out the bio balls.  Put maybe 30 lbs of live rock in where the balls were, but I am going to break some more down and put them in.  I am still trying to decide if I want to cut that section of the sump open so I can have lighting and bigger rocks in there, but I may brake the rocks and put them in.

I also redid the plumbing on the tank.  Bought new hoses and clamps and went to work.  I also plugged in the ballasts and lighting to see what really works vs not.
The Halides warmed up and work fine, but the others seem to not work.  I am guessing the bulbs are bad as I am almost positive there is electricity.

I still need to polish the inside of the acrylic, but after that, I am ready to add RO water.  I am guessing monday or tuesday.

:)

Well today I:

Sanded and buffed out the tank
Wiped down the hood and got all the mold off of it
Added 10 gallons of RO to the tank (why? because I can)

Well I added most of my rock to the tank and have added maybe 60 gallons of water now (5 gallon bucket at a time).

My neighbor has been letting me use his RO, though I realize with a tank of this magnitude, I need to just order an RO.

My rock will mostly all be fiji with a few other things as well.

Here it is with maybe 35 gallons of water and the rock:

I am hoping to finish filling the tank with water this weekend, but we'll see what really happens.  I started scaping last night, but realized the water wasn't high enough so I Couldn't go as tall as I wanted.  So to prevent die off, I just made it all flat again until the tank fills.

^Thanks guys.

While I was in San Diego my friend filled the water for me 5 gallons at a time with his RO unit.  I am glad he lives like 5 minutes by foot from my house.    I got home late last night, but still made a point of scaping the tank.

Here is what I came up with:

Thanks!  PM Sent Rick.

Here are a few shots of the different angles around the scaping.  This will give you a better idea of what the fish have to work with:

Also I did notice one or two small scratches I missed during the sanding.  Any chance there is a way to sand them out without using a buffer and without leaving it looking cloudy?

^Thanks.  I have started to slowly move fish over and am monitoring all levels as I do.

I added the two clowns and goby today.  I also got the goby a new buddy since my trigger at his gf.

What really amazed me, was the fact that the goby was hiding in the rocks/ sand when I put the Tiger Pistol Shrimp in.  Before the shrimp hit the sand, the goby had found him and they paired up that fast.  Really cool.  Video to come!

So as you know the tiger pistol shrimp creates a sound with its claw loud enough to stun and kill fish.  They can even kill/ hold off a Mantis shrimp.

I started studying about them today, and found that they are actually the loudest animal on earth both in the sea and on land!  They can make a sound over 200db!

Last night I broke up a good portion of my live rock to put the bits in the sump.  I probably have 50-60 lbs of live rock in the sump now.  I also added carbon to the tray with the first pillow that sits above the rock just as the water comes in.  I am hoping that is a good spot for the carbon.

^Luckily it is a linoleum floor and the water I think went all through the floor vent and out the floor vent down stairs.  SO I am hoping very minimal water damage to the drywall and insulation.

I had a much worse incident when I learned about having the overflow box getting air in it killing the siphon on my 75 a few months ago :(

I added another series of small caves this afternoon.  I wanted it to remain subtle though.  Observe:

Also Retested the water again today now that things have been living in it.

Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- Less than 5
PH-8.3 or so
Salinity- .025

I am pretty happy with the flow of this tank so far to say the least! I will probably add my remaining fish next week :)

Thanks.  I like the ATI so far.  Seems to be great.

I drove to like 5 shops yesterday looking for the right tangs.  My wife had a very specific idea of what she wanted as did I so it was interesting looking.

We wanted to get the yellow tang over, but I really wanted to add all tangs at once, so we spent the day shopping.

Ended up with a small Hippo and a med/large sailfin.  Also got all of the tangs and the trigger into the tank.  It has been over 24 hours now and everyone seems to be getting along and swimming just fine.  I have also observed every single fish eating a lot, so no issues there.

I was a bit worried about the huge bio load being added, but we will see.  I have over 260lbs of live rock between the tank and the sump and the skimmer is making the perfect bubbles, so we will see.

Well my parents came to town this last weekend, so I made sure the tank was clean and healthy.  My parents have never really seen a privately owned sw tank, and were so excited by mine, that they bought me some stuff for it!

Aussie Prism Favia (I Think)

I was told it is a hammer coral, but am pretty sure it is a frogspawn:

Candy Cane Coral:

Oh and here is my wife:

I also got a purple anemone and a flame angel!

Also on Saturday my Coral Beauty died.  When I got him I noticed some white just behind his front fins.  It looked as he had been ripped or something, but I didn't look too closely at the pet store to select another.  I assumed he had a little battle damage as it looked as if nothing was growing off of him etc, but I noticed he kind of stayed at the bottom of the tank and really didnt come out much.  Anyway, when I pulled him out I noticed that area was bloated and stretching so that was why it appeared to be white.  not sure exactly what was wrong with him, but I yanked him just as he was dying so he wouldn't spread his illness.

Ok so I got new stuff yesterday!
I Got a Blue Spot Jawfish, But I will need some luck getting a picture of him.

Here is my Maxima Clam.  He is maybe 5 or 6 inches?

An unknown Zoanthid from Zoanthids.com (Maybe I can email them and ask what it is)

A Viagra Toadstool surrounded by?  Chime in if you know what those little ones are.

Montipora filled with Zoa's!
Front:

Back:

Cup Coral, not exactly sure of a name other than that.

And here are some shots of the other ones that are still growing in the tank!

My Favia seems to be growing like crazy:

Fire and Ice Acan:

Frogspawn (Also Seem Very Happy)

Lobo Scolly

Purple/ Green Duncan (not really growing but seems healthy)

Zoanthids L-R (Green Bay Packers, Not Sure, Armor of God)

More Zoanthids (These seem to be growing like crazy)

24/7 Sun Corals (They rarely go inside like my other ones.  I have been told these are firecracker dendros, but who really knows?)

Yellow Toadstool going strong:

I was given the strange opportunity of discovering a Peanut Worm in my tank last night.  At first I thought it was one of those dead worm shapes that are formed on the rock, but then I thought I saw it move.  Then I pulled out the flashlight and as soon as I got light on it, it shot off faster than any of my fish ever have.  I looked again in that area an hour later and saw it again, but was able to watch it and find where it anchors.  That thing is really weird.  It is also my only worm in the tank to date!

Looks identical to this:

Ok I have proof that this guy lives. Tank lights weren't on yet, but I have no clue if he is now out for good or not, so I'll take what I can get. I also redid the rock work on the right of the tank to mix everyone up. I created a cave that is 1.5 feet tall and maybe a foot in diameter. They all love it.

SO updates on my Blotched Anthias.  He hung out in the big cave all day yesterday.  He would come out for food, then go lurk in the shadows.  Did this all day.  As soon as the lights went out at about 9pm last night, he came out to swim all around the tank and explore.

I am guessing in the next day or two he will be fully acclimated and ready to be his own man.

Here is a shot of the new rock work.  This is completely hollow inside, with a shelf in the front. The fish love this new layout.

It looks like that egg crate blocks a fair amount of light... Have you thought about some custom screens?

I just noticed that you are using an ATI fixture.  Which one is it the power module?  The sun power?  Is it dimmable?

I will check it out.  Do you buy it at the LFS? or is it industrial stuff?

None of the LFS that I know of carry it. I picked some up from Burt (bfessler). You can also get it online. I know Bulk Reef Supply carries it and also has a DIY video on you tube. Here is the link if you would like to purchase it. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/catalogsearch/result/?q=clear+netting&x=0&y=0

Last night was Frag Fest.

At the show I was able to get my hands on a Rose Bubble Tip Anemone and some Toxic Green Zoanthids.  Everything looks healthy in the tank, and I will get some pictures of the frags posted shortly.

On the way home from the show I stopped in at "The Aquarium," because my friend wanted to pick up a few Emerald Crabs.  While there he got excited over a certain small Linkia Starfish, and bought it for my tank.  He told me he had purchased one for his tank before, but literally watched it dissolve as he put it in the tank, not having properly acclimated it.  He told me he wanted to live vicariously through me by putting it in my tank.  I personally really like the Linkia's so of course I did not decline the offer.

Acclimation for the new residents:

RBTA- 30 Minutes floating the bag in the tank

ZOAS- Dip

Linkia- 2 Hours Drip acclimation

So far everything is doing great.  The ZOAS opened up this morning before I left for work.  The starfish is on the glass and has moved from one end of the tank to the other, so I will assume he is going to be fine.  The RBTA stuck to the first rock I put it on within about 10 minutes of entering the tank.

Tonight I picked up a white carpet anemone.  It is hard to tell from the images, but it is white with lime green spots.  It looks really good under my lights.  I was a bit nervous with his acclimation because it is a task to get him to anchor, but he is finally staying put.  I dug out the sand down to the bottom to clear a spot for him and turned the powerheads off while he anchored.  I did leave some flow though from the returns.  It is really incredible to feel the difference in the sting from a regular RBTA or LTA and the Carpet Anemone.  He can literally hang from my hand supported by the grip of his sting.  He is a bit stressed out from the move, so I am hoping that gaping in his mouth will go away in the next day or so.  They say the stickier these are, the healthier they are, so I am not too concerned with him being sick from the get go.

Also here is a shot of the zoa's growing in:
