I have a huge green carpet anemone about 18 " round when happy, He's been with me around 7 years and sort of the mascot of my tank ( Guest love to watch him eat )

The Problem is lately I've been adding some small fish that seem to be doing fine, never sick and eating well, But they seem to disappear into thin air (Water)

So far 6 green chromes,1 Mandarin goby, 1 lawn mower blenny, and 1 dart fish.

I have a lot of rock work and not sure if the anemone is the culprit but they usually show up when I feed and recently there seems to be more and more vacancies at the dinner table.

I've only seen the Carpet catch one fish and that was a Naso Tang that I considered suicidal.

I hate to part with this beauty but I do want to have a reef Tank with lots of coral and fish.

Such a dilemma

What should I do ???

Yep... and concentrate to build up your invert population(corals, etc)... adding the fish(SLOWLY) as a final touch(like icing on the cake).

I added a green carpet a month ago and it has already eaten two of my chromis. It is only about 8-10" in diameter, but can easily eat a 3-4" goldfish.

Dave, what do you feed yours? im having a bit of trouble getting mine to eat. It likes mussle and goldfish, but nothing else ive tried.

Hello everyone,

Which do you like more?

Personally I think an 18" carpet is cooler than any fish you could replace it with.

Hope that helps,
Chris

If your looking for some fish. Try some Clarkii clowns. I've seen them in a carpet anenome before. They look so cool in them also.

BananaTropics

I feed him Krill and Goldfish. I have a turtle tank (55Gal) Upstairs that in my kids room that I keep goldfish in between the Red Eared Slider & the carpet they eat 20+ goldfish a week.

As far as another tank goes I just sold a 90Gal & 180Gal and I'm not about to go down that road again!

I want to put all my extra cash in my 220 Reef.

So I think I'm going to go with Jason on this one and concentrate on corals and not fish.

I guess I can't say I won't go down that road again, as my wife has got me putting up a seahorse tank as we speak,

But I'm justifying that as also am gaining a refugium with it.

Thanks for your Input, I got to admit that I'm surprised that you all didn't want me to rid the carpet.

I do have 2- Clarki's,2 Tomato,1 True Pecula that love him ton's

Thanks again my friends

Dave

my wife has got me putting up a seahorse tank as we speak...

What is it about women and seahorses?  I've had tanks for years and my wife has never showed a bit of interest, but when she sees seahorses in other people's tanks or at the LFS she begs me to buy one.  I don't get it

I got to admit that I'm surprised that you all didn't want me to rid the carpet.

I think you really should get that carpet out of your tank as soon as possible, before any more damage occurs.  Being the kind person I am, I would be willing to offer him a home

Well, you're awfully cool too!  When is our first Northern WMAS HotTub Party??!!??

I love your Heritage Softail.  Did Kym tell you I was checking it out?  Damon is quite possibly just maybe hopefully coming back around the 19th of Jan.  You'll see that he's way nicer than I am.

You're quite welcome!!  Your mushrooms are multiplying in my tank, I think.  Oop... am I allowed to say that on a message board...?

Wait a minute, I was only the delivery boy! You gave them to DaveT, remember. Why do I get blamed for everything around here?

But I also remember you let them go saying that the little horses eat BBS anyway, so rotifers weren't that important. Do I remember wrong?

Okay, I'll try again.... so Dave & Kym....   when can we have a Northern WMAS HotTub Party?   But guess what?  I ordered a hot tub.  So maybe we can have it at my house!  Sometime after the 20th, which is when Damon should be back.

Nice to know that hardship duty pay is being well invested.  Enjoy the nice tax return as well.  Tell Damon we're proud of him.

I hope it's a nice tax return.  Certainly was a shock last year.   I thought a hot tub might have a positive return on investment value.       I'll tell Damon what you said, but he might read it here, anyway.

Dave,

Do you have any moonlights?  I've read that most fish get eaten at night because they accidently swim/drift into the anemone when they are asleep or groggy.  I suppose fish adapted to bright reef light have poor night vision.  Try a few blue christmas lights at night and see if the eating continues.

A bed of anemones would be hard to crawl out of in the morning!

Hey let's do a separate thread of sealife jokes and sayings.

Kym and I would love to get together for a hot tub party when Damon returns your place or ours don't matter.

Will we be able to drink Margaritas and Pucker in your tub

Hot tub breaking in party with fish geeks what could be better

Suzy:

We'll get together soon sometime around meeting time or first of the month sounds good to us or maybe we will meet in Renees new tub and share Puckers and listen to seahorse stories.

Hot tubers, Bikers, & Fish geeks what a wonderful world this is.
