I wake up way early in the morning for work.  I recently shined a small flash light into my tank before leaving.  I was surprised to see many copepods in my display.  I never see them in the display during the day, like I do in my sump when the light is on.  I was curious, are the copepods in the display all day and just hidden, or do they leave the sump at night to work in the display?

They are there all day... being eaten... and hiding.  Cool huh?  They learn to stay out in the sump as they find it safe from predators.

Are you speaking of Copepods or Amphipods? They are very different in size, shape, and movement. I suspect you are noticing the Amphipods.
