Should I be worried about this crab? Both of my fish in the same tank that it is died then a couple weeks later I found this guy. He hasn't come any farther out of his hole then this. Also iin the tank are cleaner shrimp, pep shrimp, emerald crab, and various snails/small hermits

Hairy crabs are generally preditors.  If you have a sump or refugium, I would throw him in there or flush him.

Rock crabs make great food for my aggressive tank.  Do you want to get rid of him?

Basically, if crabs have a pointed claw and/or red eyes, they are a predator.  At least that is what I heard from someone else.  Maybe Jake or Adam or Mark will straighten me out.

I've heard that also. I don't know about the red eyes, but pointed claws seem to make sense.

I have a 20 gal I could put him in until you decide if it was him or not.  Can you catch him?  I could run up tomorrow or Sunday to pick him up if you'd like.

Don't they all have pointy claws?  Even my anemone crabs, acro crabs, & emerald crabs have pointy claws.

I think if you look close, they have a more rounded tip. While the aggressive ones have more of a point. But I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?

Personally I think all crabs are aggressive and at some point will eat something you don't want them to eat.  It's the hazards of keeping crabs in a fish & coral tank.

I disagree with Jon a little.  I think just about all crabs are good to have, and I'd put him in my reef tank.

I think Adam read more into my post then I intended .  IMO, crabs are desirable in a reef tank.  Especially hermits (leg color is aesthetic only).  I do think they are all aggressive towards anything that can't get away from them.  But their savaging abilities outweigh their aggressive behavior.  I've only killed one crab in my tank (I posted pics a few weeks back) and didn't mean to do it.  But I wasn't going to keep him in my tank where he was eating one of my acros!
