Hey all, I am thinking about picking up some type of clown from an LFS that is currently hosting in a RBTA in their tanks and adding it to my tank, in hopes of drawing my existing tank raised ocellaris clowns into the anemone. Think this will work? I know this may cause some warfare if I leave the clown in the tank (55 gallon)....so I don't plan on leaving the fish in that tank, long-term. What do you guys think? Also, what clown would be good? I heard tomato's or maroons will host fairly quickly......or perhaps someone has a clown that is currently hosting they would do a trade straight across for one of mine?  btw- been there done that with strategies....pics on tank, feeding close to anemone, flashlight, etc.....patience I am still working on...  |

Unless you are open to the idea of one of the new clowns becoming the Alpha Female of the tank, I would not do that. It can take months or even a year for clowns to feel the need to move to an anemone. I wouldn't fret it. When a couple of Clownfish eventually gets together and feels like spawning that is typically when they will choose an anemone. What clownfish are in the tank? Have you determined whether one is exhibiting female behavior? Can you post a pic? Feeling you on the tomatoes. Mine are ok with other fish for the most part (so far), my real issue with them is they HATE when I move things around. Their RBTA split and both halves started wandering the tank, hence I started moving my coral to different areas... THEY ARE DRIVING ME NUTS! The do NOT like anywhere I put my coral and proceed to knock it down to the sand wherever/whatever I move. I sit and guard my moves for a while, but they're pretty smart too.. they wait until I leave and then knock them over. I've even tried moving corals when they're sleeping. My Blue Devil Damsels are almost as bad, probably just not strong enough to move things like the tomatoes do. I see why having an RBTA/tomatoes is challenging at best, but they have so much character, I can't bear to get rid of them. It's funny too, it's not as bad with new/other fish. They accept new fish fairly quickly, but mess with their surroundings and they get grumpy! ------------- I asked the Lord for the blessing of Patience... he gave me 6 kids! 125g Reef / 55g Sump-Fuge |
