As far as limits, none. You can grow any coral you want under T5's. You just have to spend the money and get the good stuff. If you penny pinch and go with a low end fixture, you will regret it one day.

Con's:...............um can't think of any. Your metal halide group will come in here whining that T5's don't have the "shimmer" effect but it's not a big deal to me. I used MH for 3 months and don't miss the shimmer at all. I actually prefer not having the shimmer but that is all personal taste.

Maybe one con to T5's is that they can't penetrate more than about 30" of water and since so many of us have 36" (top to bottom) tanks this is an issue....NOT!

Pros:

1) Less electricity and heat
2) Better colors (my opinion)
3) Better bulb combinations to get exactly what you want.
4) Even light distribution. (This is one of my favorite things about T5's. The light is distributed throughout the whole tank. This leads to the corals receiving light from all angles instead of just one. No matter how great MH or LED's sound, they are still a point source light. They blast the same side of the corals all day, every day. The sun only stays on one point of a coral for maybe a couple hours before the earth shifts and the sun beats down on another part of the coral.)

Hope that helps a little.
