Sorry for the crappy pic, but what do you think?  Good Crab or bad Crab?

His body is about the size of a silver dollar.

The crab is in the center-right side of the pic. He's facing to his right so we're looking at his left side.

I know he looks like a rock until you see him move, which he can do very fast.

With claws the big I'd rip in out in seconds if you can. Put in him the sump.

you can probably put a button polyp close to the crab to see if it actually eats it or something to see if that thing is reef safe

My rule on crabs is that if it has sharp claws it is bad. If they are dull or kinda flat they are ok... also if it parks itself on a coral and the coral retracts thats bad.

Ok, Adam was the closest.  Technically this was a trick question.  This crab is not good or bad.  It is Awesome!

In January 2009 we were doing the pre frag fest fragging at my place and came across this crab in one of the coral bags.  Of course nobody wanted it since it is not a good neighbor on the reef.  So I chucked it in my FOWLER tank.  The next day I saw it's shells lying around and figured it died.  To my surprise a month later it scurried out from under a rock when I fed my Lionfish.  I see him come out each time I feed looking for a silverside to scavenge.  He has also tripled in size in the last year and a half.  He's pretty cool to have around.

He came near the front the other day when I fed and I realized I have never gotten a pic of him so I took a couple with my phone.  Not the greatest pics and he scurried away so fast I almost didn't get one in which he could be seen.

It is definitely a crab.  He comes out to say "hi", very briefly, whenever I feed the Lion Fish.  He grabs a silver side and off he goes to eat his meal in peace.
