I actually did this with a smaller solar light and it works pretty good.  I can still see it in the morning and the best part is, no wire or timer.

That's innovative, but it does not look like moonlight so what's the point? Confused

It is beneficial for most fish to have some sort of moon cycle. With some of the more advanced versions that follow the actual moon cycle people have been able to induce corals to spawn in captivity, as well as having fish breed that would not normally do so in a normal home aquarium.

It looks more like moonlight than the "moonlights" we put on tanks these days. Last I checked the moon didn't reflect blue light from the sun :P

Although I'll be the first one to say the blue is definitely a nice touch.

You could always put a cheap blue plastic covering over the light to give it that appeal.
