The stronger current = less pulsating

Weaker current = more pulsating

also nitrite and amonia will destroy it,

Just for curioity sake what type of xenia is it?

I used my xenia as a ph meter.  Whenever it stopped pulsing and went limp, I would check the ph and sure enough it would be very low. (7.8 - 8.0).  Adjusting ph always seemed to make it happy:)

Alkalinity, pH and Iodine all are factors IMO (mostly alkalinity).

Lighting and water-flow have little to do with it from my experience.

Hello everyone,

IME, the stuff grew and pulsed like crazy without the "help" of iodine additions.

Good luck,
Chris

Mine used to droop terribly when the alkalinity got too low.  Very definite, once I knew what the deal was.

IME Alkalinity is the key.  I never add iodine or do water changes and mine pulse like crazy.

I found that when I got mine all at the same time white, brown and silver xenia, I had just 4x65 watt PC and 2x 40 watt NO actinic and they did not pulse at all or just a very little. I have since added 440 watts of VHO and they all go to town so I think between alklinity and lightung that is the key in my experience.

He has MH so it's probably not the lighting.

I have 2 patches of silver tip xenia.  One is a transplant from the other so they are genetically identical.  One receives low-moderate light and the other receives moderate-high light.  My alkalinity is 3.0-3.2 meq/l.  The lower light xenia has much longer stalks, is more pink and pulses slowly in the day, but not much at night.  The higher light xenia has shorter, lighter colored stalks with silvery polyps and is a fast pulser in the day and at night.

I agree that lack of pulsing is probably due to low alkalinity
