If you are changing from MH to t-5's make sure you shorten your photoperiod.
I have burned some tips on my coral in 3 days ! Also did 2 chalice's in.

I'm over driving 4- aquablue+ ,1 aquablue and a fiji .

Thanks for the advice. I am upgrading to a 300 gallon and plan to keep my 3 250 MH going but adding 4 t'5's. I would have cooked everything. How deep is your tank? Mine will be 30 inches so I might not be in as much trouble as you if yours is 24. ------------- I have flying monkeys and I'm not afraid to use them. 180 gallon money pit that I love..... |

I didn't realize how much of a shift this is in the hobby. I'm very impressed and happy to see it. We used to warn people about light acclimation when upgrading to MH...

I would just keep your normal MH lighting schedule for the 3 X 250 MHs and start off with the T5s on for only 2 hrs / day for the first week... add 1 hr / day each additional week, until you reach the number of hrs you want the T5s to be on for.

I would advise against an actinic if you are over driving. You will be replacing the actinic bulb every 6 months or so.  Just a heads up

if you are running just supplemental t5's your probably ok. I would drop the photo period for a week or so just in case. When I was running 2-250w mh with 4 - 54w t5's I didnt have any problems. It was when I switched to my 8-bulb fixture that I was forced to drop my photo period back. Also, I had a major outbreak of cyno because of the intensity of the t5's. Now on my 150g I have a 6-bulb ATI and I again had to re-adjust my photo period compared to what my 120g tank was. Also an idea of how well the t5's penetrate the water, I SPS frags sitting on my sand bed of my 30" deep tank that grow just fine. I have had a cyno outbreak since I added t5's. I didnt even think that could have been the cause. If I cut them back do you think I can get rid of it.
I like my lights going 12 hours on 12 off. I dont want to add more t5's if I wont be able to have light on my tank.... ------------- I have flying monkeys and I'm not afraid to use them. 180 gallon money pit that I love..... |

If you cut back the time it should help out. It just takes a while before you can have them on all day. I took my time and after 2 months had them back up to my full photo period. ------------- Original Crappy Reef Club Member #2 |

This post couldn't of come at a bettet time, as my T5 fixture arrives today. I currently have a single 150W MH Sunpod over my 29 gallon Biocube. I'm replacing it with a 6x18W Nova Extreme Pro. It comes stock with 3 10K and 3 actinic bulbs. Will I still need to adjust my photoperiod, even with a drop in total watts? If so, what would u guys recommend for a transitional photoperiod to get me up to where I am now? Currently, lights come on at 11 and go out at 9. ------------- "A fish tank is not a pet. I don't think you will need to adjust anything but I would recommend it. Just shorten the lighting for a couple hours a day for a week. The Current bulbs don't produce a lot of PAR so you should be okay. The corals just need to get used to light hitting them from every direction now.

Front Blue+ Blue+ Fiji Blue+ Blue+ Aquablue Back And that has given me the best color, kinda want to change out the aquablue for a fiji, but with 2 fijis. it actually makes it less blue.... so I would add led supplements if I did that |
