Hi, I am new to the forum. Actually I'm back after a several year break, school, kids, work travel, etc. I am now looking at settling back down and starting up a nano.
I am looking at building a small rimless glass tank - 24" x 24" x 12". Any ideas on where to get plate glass and if 3/8" is thick enough. It seems the local glass shops charge an awful lot for plate glass. Any help would be appreciated.

Acrylic is much more affordable than glass, I don't know why they charge so much for it out here. Or, just keep an eye out on the forum, pick up a used tank. ------------- Some day, when I grow up,... |

| Thanks fish. That is what I have been finding - the acrylic is much cheaper and I can cut it myself. It must be the labor for cutting and edge polishing that makes the glass so expensive. |

Ryan, I may be interested in your nano. I wanted to DIY - some wierd satisfaction problem that I have, but I may have to buy a built tank. Let me know details when you are ready.

Talk to Chad on here. He probably has his number posted in the buy-trade-sell forum with snails for sale. He has recently built some 30 inch glass cubes. Im sure he has some good input. ------------- Life is good....right? |

I've made a lot of glass tanks the size your looking at. I just bought my glass from a local glass shop and went for it. 24x24x12 is a great easy size to do yourself.

If you go the acrylic route, have a cut list and get it cut where you buy the plastic, it will save you a lot of time and trouble. Unless of course you already have all the tools you need. ------------- Some day, when I grow up,... |

I know how you feel. I love doing DIY stuff if I can. I should re ready to sell here in the next little bit. I will message you when I know more. I will also post the tank for sale in the Buy Sell Trade forum. Good luck building a tank if you can find the glass!

Thanks everyone for your advice. I plan on talking to those you have suggested if possible and will keep my eyes open in the mean time. I tend to take a long time planning before I move because I like to do it right the first time if possible. Usually cheaper that way. Eveyone is so helpful!
