I was just using the two small 24" cheap florescent bulbs that came with the used Walmart complete 55 gal kit that I bought off someone. I just switched to a 48" Coral life130w w/ 2 65w 6700k compact florescent bulbs that I just bought, installed and ran for about 4 hours on Tueday. The cheap Walmat lights had been on for about 8 hours before hand. He hasn't been two happy with the new light.  I also have some purple mushrooms that weren't too happy at first either. The mushrooms I think are coming around but the bubble tip anemone shriveled after running the lights for 3 to 4 hours this morning. I turned the lights off for 4 to 5 hour and he was happy again. Then turned them back on for about 8 hours and he seemed ok with it, but maybe not too happy but he did eat the krill I gave him.  I just bought the anemone on Saturday and switched the lights on Tuesday. Any help would be appreciated!

-Tank has been up and running for about 6 weeks.  It has two 30 to 60  gallon Walmart hang on filters. I started out by putting in 20lbs. live sand I bought at Petco, about 9lbs of live rock I bought at Pet Village in Bountiful that I poled out out their refugium under one of their coral tanks, 4 damsels I hate, some fake plastic logs and fake plastic plants, one larger hermit and larger snail that hitchhiked in on the rocks. Then 2 to 3 weeks later I add 10 hermits. I ran the tank with the lights on for 10 to 12 hours a day sometime much longer didn't change any water for a month and I have purple coralline growing everywhere, even on the fake logs and good algae growth, almost to good. I just this past weekend add a big piece of dead coral with purple mushrooms, a green mandarin, 2 small clownfish, and a bubble tip anemone and removed all 4 of them damsels I hated so much.

Thank you!

Arthur -

The PC lighting should be a better choice than the "standard" (I'm guessing N.O. flourescent here) lighting that came with your tank. Sometimes it just takes a coral or anenome a few days to acclimate to the difference in lighting.

I also noted that you said you only got the Bubble Tip last Saturday... so, in all likelyhood it is also still a little stressed out from acclimating to your tank conditions as well...

When you say the anenome "hasn't been too happy", exactly what do you mean? Is the anenome shrunken or extended? Is it out in the open or hiding behind a rock? Is it moving around the tank alot or has it stayed in pretty much the same place since you got it?

Also, if you post your water parameters for:

 - Temp (including high and low temp per 24 hrs)
 - SG / salinity
 - pH
 - dKH / alk
 - nH3 / ammonia
 - nO2 / nitrite
 - nO3 / nitrate
 - Ca / Mg / pO4 (if you have these)

 - How long your tank has been up and running

It may help to zero in on whether anything out of the ordinary is going on.
