What would I need to do to prep some shells for my larger hermits that may need a larger shell to move in to?

Boiling comes to mind, but what else?

Where did they come from? If they came from a tank then I would just toss them in.

No, Renee had them in a jar with other shells. I do not know how we obtained them.

Unless they are coated with a lacquer to make them shiny, I would simply rinse them in tap water filling the shell and then emptying the water to be sure there is no crud inside and then, like Mike said, toss them in.

Thanks

Now that I think about it, the great and wonderful BRISTLE WORMS would probably take care of the rest!!!!

Rinsed and put two of the shells in a few nights ago. One of the bigger hermits was in a new home by morning!!! I guess the other big one is still happy with his or not with the other new one.

We have had great luck by just putting some larger snails in and I have watched one of the stinking hermits rip the little door thingy off of a turbo snail and tear him out eat him and move in.

He was, or still may be, I gave him to Brad at the Aquarium.  I could not support his home improvement projects anymore.
