My two perculas have black spots all over them I am hoping that they just go away after awhile (it is mostly just on their oarnge parts). I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this, and could help me know what to do?
Thanks
Paul

So the garlic route may be beneficial in this one too...

It is a black flatworm that looks like "black ich".  Just do a hyposalinity dip and they will be fine.  I had that exact thing on my clowns and the freshwater dip cleared it right up.  Don't leave them in too long.  I had mine in for 15-20 minutes the second time and that was too long, they were starting to show some signs of stress.  I had it happen twice, once on the first pair I had then I lost one of the clowns when I moved tanks (got caught behind a container and couldn't get out)  I bought one to replace that one form Chris Rogers and the new one came down with it.  My picassos have yet to get it so maybe it is gone.  Be sure to match tempurature and ph to your tank to make it as minimal stress as possible.

Did they keep coming back?, or did they finally go away? Would you recomend doing the fresh water dip with the floraquin?

we honestly never treated it. Our fish were very established and healthy. it did show up here and there for a while, and than i dont remembber seeing it for a long time. we just kept feeding well, and regular tank maintenance. So i guess we technically still had it.

I am sure the garlic would help them recover and to keep from getting it.  I don't think it will cure it.  I didn't use floraquin when I did the dip, just RO/DI corrected for temp and ph.  One dip totally wiped them out.  I have a bunch of articles an posts bookmarked if you need more info.  If they come back, I think you need to do another dip at 5 days if I remember correctly.  I would need to double check on timing.  I didn't have a relaps other than when the new clown cam into the tank.  I guess that could have been the "rebound" they were talking about.  None of the other fish were affected, just the clowns.

Like Crystal posted, it isn't anywhere near as serious as ich.  My clowns never showed any signs of distress (until I dipped them too long) and ate and acted normal and happy through the whole thing, just had the black spots.  Both have recoverd fully with no further signs.  They are waiting in my sump for their new home, a 24 gallon Aquapod at my brothers place, should be making the move later this week.

Thumbs%20Up Thanks to everyone for all the great help and articles, it is so nice to have you all as a support system to get answers to questions. I will just do the RO water dip, and hope this cures everything.

Any ideas on how to heat the ro water and balance the ph would be helpful.

you use a ph buffer available at the store.. it will say ph 8.3 or something of the sort. you will than just drop a heater in there with a thermometer and make it the same as the tank they are coming from. watch for signs of stress though.. if they try to lay down move them a bit with your finger and keep them alert and moving.

and if by any means they really start acting horribly take them out immedietly!

Couldn't you take water out of the tank and add r/o water to it to lower the salinity? Make sure the temp is the same and call it good?

I have had tangs with this problem and I treated it like I do regular ich. My only casualty was a powder blue.

Just for curiosity would a cleaner shrimp clean these off? I don't know if any of you who have had the black chicken pox, had a cleaner shrimp? I dont know to much about them either.

Yes, just like that.  I used my seachem buffer to bring the ph up but it is very touchy.  I think the other buffers may be easier to get right.  It takes very, very little of the buffer to bring a bucket of RO/DI up.  And definately watch for signs of stress.  I would say 5 to 10 minutes max.  It doesn't take long for the fresh water to kill any inverts on them.
