Here is a new overflow box made for Nate Laidlaw (Crazy Tarzan) Hopefully he will post some pictures of it after it has been installed.
The box has a lid for an open topped aquarium to keep jumpers out of the overflow. ------------- Kauai, Hawaii |

I didn't feel like having to fish out fish, shrimp or any other critter that decided to go over the top. I've had to do it before and if you can't get your whole hand in it's a major pain.

I put a lid on mine months ago, right after I had to catch my mystery wrasse after he jumped in there. Plus the overflow was getting clogged with algea from the lights, and now , no more algea. I just had a black peice of acrylic cut to the size of my overflow, with a hole cut in it for the durso. I created the layout in Adobe Illustrator and cut it out using a Universal Laser. This box is made form ABS plastic. It could also be made with Acrylic. The cost for ABS is less then half that of Acrylic. ------------- Kauai, Hawaii |

I like the over-flow....nice choice of materials.
So you have access to a digi-laser cutter?
Like a digi-water jet?
Very sweet.......so can you take a set of drawings and just wack away at the drawings?

The files have to be an eps and the lines have to be set to hairline. We have a small 12"x24" laser cutter at work. To cut larger pieces you can use Tru-Cut Steal Rule and Die. They have a very expensive large two headed laser that will cut just about anything. They charge by the linear inch. ------------- Kauai, Hawaii |

It would be our advantage to order in the cut pieces from glasscages.com on large projects. Thanks for the information about your laser jig cutter, it will help on small projects. The over flow is grand.

That pic makes it look huge like it's 2 feet tall! If it's for a 40 breeder, what is the horizontal length of the overflow, the total of all three sides and how much water will it handle?
What is used to secure and seal ABS to glass?

The Overflow box is 17.5625" Tall, 8" wide and 4" deep. The ABS comes form any plastic company. I have only seen it sold with the texture (on one side only). ------------- Kauai, Hawaii |

I like it over the flat black side.......it probably will collect growth faster then the smooth side anyways. Could make a nice trelliss for some long hair algea. ------------- Trigger Master |

It's the standard stuff you buy at the plastic store to make light fixtures, canopies and whatever else. I've only ever seen the flat/textured pieces as well. I'm not good with it, but Eric at Marine Aquatics is.
