a while back I bought 8 standard t8 shop lights that I bought for my garage/basement. So I was wondering if anyone has converted this type of lighting to thier tank. If this isn't a good idea, I guess I will just sell them. ------------- Original Crappy Reef Club Member #2 |

I use a 48" shoplight in my 100 gallon canopy. It works fine. I put some silicone around some of the wiring and stuff to make it more resistant to humidity and corrosion, but it works fine for 40 W NO bulbs. Probably. But all my fish stuff is in storage until I get the basement finished.
The one thing I don't need is more lights!
 But, if I were you, I'd use them. |

You can also get the clear safety tubes to instal the lights through. These tubes are made for harsh environments, they work well for wash bays and paint areas. Helps keep the bulbs hemetically sealed, less chance of corrosion. Just some added precautions to DIY lighting.
