Are these things really reef safe or is my clams on the "menu"?  All of the info I have been able to pull up has been very vague and doesnt really provide much in the way of info on this or their care.  Can anyone impart some words of wisdom?

Although most people will call them reef safe I have seen them attempt to eat small clams.

Ditto what Jake said, especially the more ordinary bivalves residing on LR.

Jake and Mark, do you think that's a common occurrence? I have never heard of it before.

Mark,

They are Maximas.  They are about 3.5" inches across at the widest point.  Started out with 3, a couple of weeks later got 2.  Think a hermit might have gotten to him, or the shop I got him in pryed him off the holder he was displayed in and injured him?

Jake,

I kinda thought that would be the case, or at least a bit of a risk at any rate.  But like a lot of things in this hobby, you read one place that its reef safe and then pick up another article and they will write that its not reef safe.  Doesnt seem to be too many sure things.

Like Marcus, I am kinda curious.

Thanks fellas!  I would still like to learn more about these guys.  Cant see buying one and have it not flourish or wreck havock in my tank. Any of you guys keeping one of these things?

The decorative clams are easier to have control of, so that when a star looks like it's going for one, you could just kick it off!

I seem to recall having come across instances of Blue Linkia eating small bivalves on LR.

Hummm.....Sounds a little too iffy for me.  Maybe I will pass until I can get a bigger tank, and can better support one of these guys.  I am still not getting a "warm fuzzy" about housing these guys with clams anyways.  I could care less if it takes out some of the smaller bi-valves on LR but as much of an investment as some choice Maximas and Crocea are, I'd have a "nuclear meltdown" if one was to end up as dinner for a wayward starfish.  I dont handle "suprises" very well.  Thanks for all of the info.....
