I am looking to see what inverts to put into a 37-40 gallon tank, with the following setup (I also need a clean up crew.

clarkii clown

neon goby

wachman goby

crystal goby

three spot damsel

royal grama

I need help finding live rock too, and there will be 3-3 1/2 inches of live sand on the bottom.  I need help finding the corals, and I do want a clam.  I have not gotten anything to keep the tank alive, such as lights/skimmer/refugium/sump/filter/hydometer/heater/thermom eter/tank/ and things like that, and I need help finding the right ones.

any recomendations would be nice

thanks

Richard

Okay, here we go:

1. lights - you want clams so get a MH, probably a 175 w/VHO's
2. skimmer - you should get a skimmer, but which one will depend on whether you have a sump or not
3. refugia/sump - I would do one, but you are going to have to drill your tank and build an overflow (I am putting one on a 26 gallon tank I am setting up now)
4. filter - sump/refugia is a filter and so is the rock and sand, so you don't need another one if you do a sump
5. hydrometer - don't get a hydrometer, get a refractometer that compensates for temp.
6. heater - ebo-jager submersible 75-100 watt
7. thermometer - digital
8. tank - get any tank that is not tempered and can be drilled on the bottom, I like black siliconed tanks

This is what I would do, but there are many ways to do it.  I do not want you to model your tank after what I would do.  I suggest taking everyone's advise and then go look around at other tanks and see what you like.

Crazy-sps gave some good advice. I will add some additional options, if that's okay.

On item 3. it's not absolutely necessary to drill a tank. Reliable overflow into a sump/refugia can be engineered with plastic boxes and permanent siphon tubes

Item 5. A hydrometer actually is very reliable if it is kept clean and if it is "user calibrated" to a known value. And it's ten times cheaper too!

Item 7. Flat, plastic, stick on tank thermometers are just fine IMO.

Item 8. Same as 3. but the tanks that are factory drilled with molded plastic overflows are ideal IMO

the pro-heat titanium heaters are pretty nice and have a built-in digital thermometer - if you decide to go in that direction you might want to check them out.
