I know asad had it, I have seen a couple others. I don't want to drill my sump that much unless it is really high on the tank. I want to run a line from my r/o to my sump. have it hit like a toilet float and thats it. help....
no funky electical, really cheep and easy..... ------------- I will just give my warning that your system will flood, bulbs will burn out, and things will take continuous maintenance... get over it. Magna |

Here is what I did. I did not want to drill the sump either. I mounted the Kent float on a piece of acrylic. I cut a slit the width of the acrylic in a length of 1" pvc. The T's mounted on the end of the pvc keep the assembly from moving even a little. The acrylic is tight enough in the pvc that it takes effort to slide it up and down. This movement allows you to adjust it to the height that you want. The electric grid in the back is my water sensor. If the water touches that grid it will sound an alarm and close a solenoid mounted in line with the RI water 1/4 tube. The circuit is 9v DC and I measured for current and voltage in the water if the grid was submersed and there was none so I felt it was safe to use. The Kent float is $15 dollars at Marine Depot and the solenoid was $45 on e-bay. The solenoid is cheap insurance against the float sticking open. Here are some pics. You will notice the black line in the first pic lower left. This is my water level and it doesn't vary more than a millimeter. You can use any type of attachment to hold the mount in place. I just used what was on hand. Hope this helps.

so I see thats easy... the PVC holds the float. then from there it's gravy. so the float has really worked well for ya? no real need for the alarm deal... ------------- I will just give my warning that your system will flood, bulbs will burn out, and things will take continuous maintenance... get over it. | Yes it has worked well but like Dion said it is insurance. When you have $$$$$ tied up in your tank, $29 was cheap insurance against it putting too much RO water into the system no to mention the flood potential. I like security over skimping when it comes to that piece of the system. I am cheap like the rest of us but there are some things worth spending a little extra on. |
